Heraclio Fournier was founded in Vitoria in 1870, beginning as a small printing workshop. In 1877, the company commissioned the design of a new deck of cards, laying the foundations for what would become the iconic Spanish playing card deck. Although today Fournier operates with highly advanced manufacturing processes, its identity remains deeply connected to traditional printing craftsmanship. Every deck combines specialist card stock, two layers of paperboard joined with black adhesive for opacity, custom inks and a proprietary varnish. Every aspect of its cards has historically involved master craftsmen and artists specialised in printing techniques combining heritage craftsmanship, graphic arts and industrial precision.
